The persuasive speech, Drinking and Boating: A Deadly Combination,â⬠was able to capture the readerââ¬â¢s attention very well. In the introduction the speaker acquired the readerââ¬â¢s attention by the way of narrative styles, vivid imagery as well as by adding a ââ¬Å"personal touchâ⬠to the introduction. The author used vivid language that was indeed very effective by capturing the readerââ¬â¢s attention and by making the reader almost feel all of what the author was feeling and thinking. This persuasive way of presenting this speech was very effective by using coordinating and sub coordinate points that supported the thesis. These points were effective in making the audience aware by highlighting on the fact that boating and drinking was a serious problem. It also explained very the causes of the problem as well as a solution to the problem. The authorsââ¬â¢ use of transitions allowed the reader to ââ¬Å"flowâ⬠from one point to the other with ease. The author used somewhat simple language in this speech. Repetition and imagery were what the author used most. The use of repetition was effective in making the reader not forget what the author has said and the use of imagery was successful in drawing a mental picture in the readers head. The author also asks questions and later on in the speech answers those same questions. The conclusion tied well with the introduction as well as followed the persuasive pattern that the entire speech did. It makes those who read this speech want to take action and not hold the belief that drinking and boating is an acceptable recreational activity. In a whole, the conclusion restated all that was said throughout the speech, and did so very successfully....
